Early years engagement

Here at Edis we are passionate and have an strong history for supplying education solutions into teaching environments. Due to the current climate we have invested in online collaboration and we understand how using the right camera can impact engagement. And as remote learning and working becomes a normality now, using the right conferencing solutions can make all the difference.

Early years Comb

A standard webcam, such as a webcam built into a laptop often has a FOV (Field of View) of just 50 degrees. This gives a ratio of approximately 1:1, meaning if the user is 1 foot away- the camera will just cover 1.1 feet.

As a rule these webcams are just adequate enough for face to face conversations. However if you want to engage with your audience- let them feel like they are part of the experience- you need to be able to capture more of the picture, well. This is where our portable huddle room system comes in. We have released our hand held portable EM105 All-in-One - mobile conference system with camera, microphone and speakers that can also connect to your mobile phone

Combining a high quality lens with an impressive field of view, a generous 105 degrees, the presenter can engage and inspire his or her audience. No longer are you stuck simply talking into a camera you can gesticulate, use props, move around to create a more natural feel to your presentation.

We used this recently in an early years setting where children under 5 need these non-verbal cues to remain interested and focused. Using the camera in her home Michelle Sutherland an early years professional was able to walk, dance, engage with props and really capture the imagination of the children. And situated just 4 feet away the camera easily captured the whole width of the room- over 10 feet wide. The camera itself comes with a 3m USB-C cable that powers the device. At full extent you can potentially cover a width of 45 feet- nearly 8 metres.

EC105 Early years Slim“Working from home at present is difficult for most people, throw into the mix a group of under 5’s who need engaging and exciting activities makes it even harder!

Using the EM105 has changed the way I am able to support their home learning and development. The children are now able to see my whole body, which is really important especially when doing ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” or learning body parts and that’s just having the camera at 4 feet away.

I can display resources and set up an area that the children are able to see which supports their learning (before all they could see was my head and shoulders).

The portable camera has also enabled me to utilise my laptop more effectively, the long cable means can have my laptop close to unmute microphones etc, but the camera further back to capture more of the room.

Also as the quality of the camera is much higher than that of my laptop, which is an added bonus. The children see detail far more clearly.”

Michelle, Early Years Professional

After the session Michelle also got feedback from parents who commented.

“What a difference the camera has made to your sessions! Amir was so excited that he could see your feet when you were dancing.

He kept shouting “Look Mummy, penguins” because he could see all the pictures around you. Being able to see the resources around you has given us as parents ideas to enhance his learning further at home.

Thank you, Amir is looking forward to seeing all of Aunty Chelle in the next session”

Amir’s Mummy

Watching a lesson using the EM105 actually can make you feel you are there in the room with the presenter, the presenter style changes to a natural interacting style, ensuring the lessons or topics are engaging.

Not only do students feel like they are back in the classroom, they feel like they have been moved to the front of the class.

Helping Chinese Students to Study Overseas

Many local senior government officials and business owners in China approached us, to see if we could help them to get places at overseas universities, mostly in UK, USA and Australia, for their teenage offspring.

Students 3

We created online courses using Moodle to set out the basis for application, making the application, getting ready for travel including visa applications and understanding cultural differences in living and learning in a Western Society. Help usually involved meeting once or twice a week over a period of a year which helped them not only with the content of course material but also in speaking English and building confidence with foreigners.

We've helped many students all of whom succeeded in getting into their university of choice and did very well on their courses which varied from Fashion Design at University of Arts in London, a Phd in Biotechnology at Princeton University NJ USA, and an MA in Media Studies at Birmingham University in the UK.

Passing the International English Language Testing System  (IELTS) test is a pre-requisite for a University place in the UK (and TOEFL in the USA) so we've created courses to aid students pass the tests with tips on learning practice, practice on-line and past exam papers. We use the latest teaching techniques to maximise learning skills with a combination of personal face to face tuition in a "classroom" type environment with self study using cognitive and flipped learning techniques outside the classroom.

Why Explore Secularism in Schools

Explore SecularismSecularism raises significant questions about how we balance freedom of, and from, religion with other rights.

These are some of the most important questions which arise in all of the humanities, from religious and belief education to citizenship, and from the arts to history.

The Commission on Religious Education has recognised secularism as a key concept in the study of religion and worldviews.

By using Exploring Secularism, you and your students will join a long tradition of people from all faiths and none, of artists and authors, of politicians and philosophers, judges and theologians, all of whom have grappled with these debates.
